Book Launch: Non-affirmative Theory of Education and Bildung

Dear Colleagues,

in the recently published volume Non-affirmative Theory of Education and Bildung, Malte Brinkmann and Johannes Türstig develop a phenomenological perspective on judgment and its relation to Bildung. Their contribution “Between Doxa and Transformational Education: A Phenomenological and Social-Theoretical Rehabilitation of the Formation of Opinions with Egon Schütz and Pierre Bourdieu” discusses an understanding of Bildung as formation of opinion (Meinungsbildung).

The related volume edited by Michael Uljens was recently published as open access by Springer and will be presented at a Book Launch on 30-08. 1-5pm. We invite you to join us at Geschwister-Scholl-Str. 7 in room 235 or online via Zoom.

Kind regards
Malte Brinkmann

Interview on system debates of schools, psychometric educational research and educational justice

Dear phenomenologists,

In the context of an article on the news portal Watson.de I gave an interview about system debates of schools, psychometric educational research and educational justice – there is a need for democratic, social and educational theory oriented educational research that supports schools and their environment.

You can find the article with the interview here.

Video: Drone-concert Nadja

A video of the drone concert with the band Nadja is now online. The performance was part of our research seminar “Die ästhetische und pädagogische Darstellung der Welt: Zeigen, Fragen, Fühlen” (The Aesthetic and Pedagogical Presentation of The World: Showing, Asking, Feeling), led by Prof. Dr. Malte Brinkmann and organized by the Chair for General Pedagogy of the Department of Education Studies at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It can be found on the band’s Bandcamp page and in higher resolution on Youtube.

While a video recording cannot replace the bodily experience of the music in real time. However, as documentation of an impressive concert, about which we had exciting discussions afterwards, we would like to make the video available here.

Drone-Concert Nadja

The Department of General Pedagogy invites you to a common musical aesthetic experience in the context of our research seminar/colloquium. We have invited the band Nadja, who will play a concert in the entrance area of the Institute of Education Studies starting at 6 pm. Nadja have been active since 2005. The band moves stylistically between doom metal, ambient, drone and noise music and has gained international attention with over 70 released records and over 1000 played concerts.
After the concert we will have the opportunity to share and discuss our own experiences with the band.

We cordially invite all interested parties and welcome all guests to listen and discuss.
Time: 26.01.2023, 6-8 pm.
Place: entrance area of the Institute of Education Studies,
Geschwister-Scholl-Str. 7.
In the context of the research seminar, we will discuss pedagogical possibilities of an aesthetic representation of the world from the perspective of an aesthesiology of the senses and embodiment.
